True gas powered RC trucks and cars are relatively thin on the ground when compared to the vast number of nitro RC trucks available. One of the better known is the 1/5th scale HPI Baja 5B RTR Gas RC Buggy mentioned in my earlier post about the difference between gas and nitro RC trucks.
The Baja 5B is about to be joined by the new HPI Baja 5T Gas RC Truck, also a 1/5th scale vehicle. Whilst the 5B is available in both a RTR (Ready to Run) and kit form, the Baja 5T truck is being released in a RTR (Ready to Run) form only, at least initially. The 23cc engine and 8000rpm clutch from the 5B are also at the heart of the 5T and the new truck shares many of the parts of the 5B buggy. Some of the changes made to the 5T include:
- Truck Body Mounts – Tough nylon construction and 8 mounting points keep the truck body securely mounted, fully adjustable design for compatibility.
- Modified Rear Shock Tower Brace – Relocates shocks for increased rear suspension travel for stable performance on rough surfaces and soft landings over jumps.
- Extended Roll Cage – Extra bracing for durability, extended upper roll cage for spark plug protection.
- Dirt Guards – The sides of the truck are protected by new guards that deflect dirt and debris away from the chassis which will not only help keep cleaning and maintenance down but will also help to lower wear and tear on the components. The engine also receives dirt guards on both sides for extra protection.
- High Flow Exhaust – Large capacity design, tuned for increased horsepower
